Online gaming software provider Betsoft Gaming has announced support for Bitcoin transactions on the BTC Poker Network, which itself just launched earlier this year with member sites 365betbit, Bluffabit and Coinpoker.
For those unfamiliar, Bitcoin is a peer-to-peer payment and digital currency system developed in 2009 as an open-source software. The software allows users to send payments anonymously to one another from what’s known as a “wallet” and the wallet’s supply of bitcoins is sourced from either a process called mining or by exchanging other services or currencies. The currency has received a fair bit of media attention as of late, in part due its noted relation to the black market. However, it is also becoming more and more widely accepted by legitimate businesses, as they see the benefit of not only offering another payment option to their customers, but also reduced merchant transaction fees (such as those imposed by credit cards).
Licensees of the BTC network, which provides Betsoft’s 3D slot games alongside its poker rooms, will now be able to utilize the crypto-currency as part of what Betsoft Representative Anthony Locke called a drive to ensure Betsoft was “embracing the challenges posed by the relentless evolution of technology.” Locke detailed that Betsoft was “prepared to shift with the times to allow for top end innovation in every facet of the iGaming sector.”
Echoing his colleague’s statements, Andrew Turner – BTC’s Director of Marketing – noted that Betsoft worked closely with BTC to create the infrastructure required for the launch. “We pride ourselves on providing access to new and exciting opportunities, and Bitcoin simply gives players more options for payment when playing at any of our licensees’ establishments,” Turner remarked.
